Running Jacket

As a runner, I’ve often struggled to stay warm at the beginning of a run without overheating later on. In response, I designed a lightweight jacket that targets warmth where it’s most needed—hands and ears. The jacket features built-in hand coverage and a hood with a cozy inner lining, allowing runners to stay comfortable through changing temperatures without extra layers to manage.

Final Prototype

The hood has a soft, fuzzy lining that warms the ears like a built-in headband. It fits snugly around the head to preserve peripheral vision and includes a small opening in the back for ponytails.

I designed the sleeves extra long, based on how I usually pull them over my hands when running in the cold. The fold-over mitten, modeled after baby onesies, includes elastic so runners can easily push the sleeves up onto their wrists once they’ve warmed up, without them slipping down.

This jacket includes a secure zippered back pocket for carrying small items and two front pockets that open from the top rather than the sides. The top-opening design helps keep items from falling out while running, unlike typical side-entry jacket pockets.
